NJSIAA Releases Phase 1 Of Return To Play Guidelines

As promised the NJSIAA has released initial guidelines for the return to high school sports in New Jersey. The release includes some more details into what restrictions will be in place, a frequently asked questions page, screening questions, and more.

While they anticipate Phase 1 will run for approximately two weeks, from July 13th to July 26th, "progression to the next PHASE will be dependent upon directives from the Governor and changes in the prevalence of COVID-19 throughout the State."

Main topics covered in the guidelines sheet include but are not limited to: pre-screening, workouts, face coverings, groupings/social distancing, sports equipment, locker rooms/restrooms, and hygiene. The documents and statements are linked below.

The NJSIAA (New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association) today marked the initial step toward a fall season return to high school sports with the release of initial guidelines for workouts during the summer recess period.

If member schools wish, they may begin summer workouts on July 13; this phase will continue until at least July 26. Additional guidelines and specific timing for subsequent phases are pending, and details will be shared no less than two weeks before the next phase begins. Start dates for all fall sports remain unchanged, though NJSIAA continues to emphasize that all dates are subject to revision.
