Group 4 Relays brought us a fantastic meet on Sunday, down to the wire in team scoring for boys and girls and great times and marks all around.
The Kingsway boys clinched the team title with a 4x400m win after entering the event one point behind South Brunswick. For the girls meet the 4x400m saw multiple teams in the hunt and there ended up a tie between Ridge and Kingsway with Millville just a point behind in third.
Kingsway Clinches Title with 4x4 Win, Caraccio Brings Dominance
Kingsway scored 38 points on Sunday with three wins and a second place finish on the track. They swept the distance events winning the DMR at 10:30.41 and 4x800m with 8:01.98 and of course clinched the title in exciting fashion with their 4x400m victory at 3:31.77. This was complimented by a second place finish in the SMR running 3:39.50.
A consistent and dominating presence on all of those relays was Stone Caraccio who put together once of the most impressive quads you'll see. He anchored the DMR with a 4:23, anchored the 4x800m splitting 1:58, brought the SMR into second with a 1:56 effort, and finally ran the second leg of the 4x400m charging ahead with a 51 second split. Wow!
Two sophomore stars also had big days, Jeff Heineman split 2:01 twice in the DMR and 4x8 before a 53 second leg on the winning 4x400m. Kyle Rakitis led off the DMR with a 3:11 1200m and posted 1:59 on the 4x800m.
Also having solid meets, South Brunswick finished second with 29 points and East Brunswick third at 24.
Co-Champs After a Hard Fought Battle
Heading into the 4x400m three teams were still in contention for the team title - Kingsway led with 30 points, Millville was second at 29, and Ridge third at 24. After the dust settled Kingsway and Millville both finished outside the scoring points in the 4x400m and Ridge ran third collecting six valuable points. This tied Ridge with Kingsway for the overall win and left Millville just a point behind in third.
This isn't the first time these two have tied either, they also shared the Group 3 team title back in 2007.
Kingsway's 30 point night saw 10 come from a DMR win at the start of the meet running 12:34.81, they also finished second in the 4x800m, 9:41.41, and third in the SMR at 4:19. The pole vault team of Allison Bobst and Erin Kennedy picked up valuable points finishing third at 17-00.
One of the major stars on the day for Kingsway was Allie Pierontoni who anchored the winning DMR at 5:10, the 4x8 with a 2:19, the SMR 2:17, and finally had a hand in the 4x400m at the end splitting 63 seconds.
For Ridge the win came from hard earned points in four track events and a major win in the pole vault to help secure the title. The winning pole vault team of Leila Cheo-Isaacs and Sarah Castronovo totaled 18-06 in a close one with Rancocas Valley ranked second on jumps at the same height total.
Ridge picked up silver in the DMR early on running 12:41, was third in the 4x400m, 4:07.21, to secure the tie for the championship, fourth in the SMR at 4:19.07, and fifth in the 4x800m running 9:45.28.
Millville who was just a point behind in third won the 4x200m at 1:44.17, won the high jump relay at 10-02, and finished second in the shuttle clocked at a 32.26 (out of the second heat!). Bryanna Craig led the meet individually in the high jump clearing 5-04 on that relay.
