The Westfield girls went to the Yale Classic in search of some hot times.
They got what they came for as the Blue Devils dropped some sparkling performances during the two-day meet that concluded on Saturday in New Haven, Conn.
On Friday night, Westfield cranked out a US#7 and school indoor record 12:25.35 to place fifth in a loaded DMR to take over the No. 1 spot in NJ from Colts Neck. Colts Neck briefly held the No. 1 ranking after winning the DMR in 12:28.28 earlier on Friday at the Monmouth County Relays at the Bennett Center in Toms River.
Caroline Collins led off for Westfield with a 3:59.81 carry for 1200. Julia Csorba followed with a 60.64 for 400. Emily DiSarno covered the 800 in 2:24.54, and Katie Hamilton anchored in 5:00.34.
Hamilton, a junior, came back on Saturday to win the mile in a NJ #4 5:00.86, more than two seconds ahead of runner-up Katie Hedlund of Manchester, N.H. (5:03.34).
Westfield also placed sixth in the 4x200 in 1:50.10.
NJ picked up another baton victory in the girls 4x4800 when St. Dominic Academy clocked a NJ#8 9:56.13 as Avery Sullivan, Suhayla Johnson, Kayla Sullivan, and Milani Bethel shared the baton.
The Ramapo girls, a program that doesn't get enough attention for always producing strong teams year after year, had several impressive relay times.
Ramapo was second in the girls 4x400 in 4:07.05, third in the 4x200 in an NJ#14 1:47.18, sixth in the 4x800 in an NJ#13 10:01.00. Lander, Anzalado and Vernieri ran on both the 4x200 and 4x400.
Ramsey ran a NJ#12 10:00.47 in the girls 4x800, and senior Melissa Waters of Kearny placed fourth in the girls 55 hurdles in 8.75, just off her PR of 8.71. She also ran a PR of 7.71 in the trials of the 55 dash.
St. Dominic won the Small School girls 4x800m running 9:56.13 NJ#8.
