10 Questions With...Tyler Udland

NJR: What got you into distance running?
Tyler: Throughout middle school and before I had always played football, basketball and baseball, but going into high school I didn't want to play football anymore. My brother was running cross country so I naturally did that too. I had a little success and ran winter track. Then in the spring I was on the baseball team for a week when I decided that I really missed running, so I made the switch and that's how I really got into running full time.

NJR: Do you have a pre race ritual or superstition?
Tyler: I don't have an exact pre race ritual or superstition but there are a few things that I try to do before most races. If its a Saturday morning race I normally only have a bagel for breakfast. Also if its a pretty big race and I need to get really focused I normally choose one song on my iPod and listen to it on replay for about an hour or so.

NJR: You thoughts on a College choice?
Tyler: Right now I have about six colleges or so that I am really interested in. I really don't have a clear favorite right now but the schools on the list are Wisconsin, Princeton, UVA, Stanford, Syracuse and Georgetown.

NJR: Do you have an academic major in mind?
Tyler: I'm not positive on what I want to study in college right now but I am interested in either business or history.

NJR: Your favorite All time movie?
Tyler: This is a really hard question. I feel like anytime anyone asks me this I have a different answer. But for right now I am going to have to go with Step Brothers because I just watched it. That is likely to change on any given day though.

NJR: What do you do for relaxation
Tyler: In my free time I like to hang out with friends or watch TV. My favorite thing to do though is to play golf. I'm a pretty avid golfer.

NJR: Goals for this XC Season?:
Tyler: I don't want to throw out too many goals, but I would really like to try and defend the MOC title. Also, team wise, we would really like to have a great year and try and get our first group title, but keeping everyone healthy is priority number one. I really just want to go out and run the best I can this year.

NJR: Tyler Udland in 10 years
Tyler: 10 years is a long time from now, that's tough to think about. I would love to still be running competitvely, but nobody can tell that at this point. So, I'm going to say hopefully I have a decent job and am not living at home still, HaHa.
