Hurdles Preview

Well this certainly became on of the highlight face-offs after what occurred this past weekend.

For the 100m hurdles Claudine Smith and Grace O'Shea, at two different Group locations, broke into the top 30 in the county with their times of 13.80 and 13.82. Tionna Tobias of Winslow also broke 14 seconds last weekend at 13.99, all of these times wind legal.

All three of those mentioned were in the Meet of Champions final last spring, Grace O'Shea was third. This past indoor O'Shea had a hurdle from another lane throw her off her line in prelims at Group Championships, she didn't advance to the Meet of Champions but threw down some hot times at Eastern States and NBNO. Being back at this level of the State meets will certainly be a motivator. Claudine Smith did advance to the Meet of Champions indoors and won her first Meet of Champions title she's looking to add another this weekend. These two will get their head to head match-up of the year on Saturday to crown the outdoor champ.  As mentioned in the sprints article O'Shea could come back in the 200m, and Smith is the #1 seed for the triple jump.

In the 400m hurdles Katherine Muccio of Ridgewood and Aliya Rae Garozzo of Paul VI are the only two to break 61 seconds this season. Muccio won the Group 4 with a 60.79 and Garozzo the NPA with her 60.95.  After placing seventh at MOCs in 2017 Muccio unfortunately missed the end of last spring and the entire NJSIAA tournament of meets, she'll no doubt have her eye on the prize this weekend after fighting back to the biggest show on state soil.
