Julia Trethaway completed one of the greatest distance doubles in state sectional history when she broke her second record of the meet by running 10:19.37 to win the 3,200m at Saturday's North Jersey, Sec. 2 Group 3 meet at Middletown North High School.

On Friday, Trethaway, a junior at West Morris, broke the All-Time Sectional record for all sections and groups combined when she won the 1,600m in NJ#1 4:48.82.

Trethaway's NJ#2 and PR of 10:19.37 on Saturday broke the NJ. Sec. 2 meet record of 10:30.36 set in 2013 by Mackenzie Barry of Mendham. Abby Loveys of Randolph, who ran a state record 10:10.24 at the Morris County Championships, is the only NJ runner who has run faster than Trethaway this season. Trethaway ran her previous PR of 10:20.52 when she was second to Loveys at the Morris meet.

In both her sectional victories, Trethaway, the Meet of Champions 3,200m winner indoors, was pushed the whole way by two-time Outdoor Meet of Champions 3,200m winner Alexa Westley of Warren Hills.

The Wisconsin-bound Westley,  second in a PR of 4:51.13 on Friday, led for the first half of the 3,200m, hitting the 1,600 mark in 5.08. Then Trethaway took over and stayed in front the rest of the way. Westley's runner-up time of 10:23.77 is a six second PR.

Trethaway and Westley are expected to meet again in the 3,200 at the state Group 3 meet next week and at the Meet of Champions on June 8.
