Week 7 Results and Coverage Board, Championship Season


An absolutely HUGE week of New Jersey cross country action. So many local championships on showcase congratulations to all of the freshly crowned champions. This is the time of the season where all your summer work really starts to pay off and come to fruition, the warm-up for a high pressure state meet season. As more coverage such as recaps and more comes in they will be linked below.

10/15 Big North Divisional Championships - American and United

10/17 Olympic Conference Championships

Led by race winner Ethan Wechsler at 15:41 the Cherokee boys score 28 to dominate the Olympic Conference.  Another Cherokee athlete won the girls race as well, Kate Rathman 18:22. Cherry Hill East girls win the team title with 63 points a 1:22 split and 20:15 average led by Sarah Pierce in fourth 19:23. 

10/17 Salem County Championships  

Woodstown boys and Pennsville girls win the team titles. Julia Smith of AP Schalick wins the girls race with room to spare at 19:41. Xavier Seals leads his Woodstown team victory with the individual win at 16:07

10/18 Atlantic County Championships 

Mainland Regional sweeps the boys and girls team titles! The boys with a low 21 points 16:05 average and the girls also dominant at 35 points and a 19:58 average. Olivia Shafer of Egg Harbor Twp wins the individual girls race by over 30 seconds running 18:29. Kevin Antczak continues his tear of a season with the county win running 15:18. 

10/18 Cape May County Championships

Sweep sweep sweep! Ocean City owns the County of Cape May! Wins both individual and team titles on Thursday. Anthony Conte just outruns teammate Gavyn Fox both at 16:01. Their 1-2 punch leads a near perfect 18 point score at the OC boys run 1-2-4-5-6 (7-8), Leo Zaccaria of Cape May Tech finished third to stop the perfect score.  On the girls side Casey McLees also leading a strong Ocean City performances at 18:51 for first, the girls score 29 points in a battle with Wildwood Catholic in second at 39. 

10/18 Colonial Conference All Star Meet  

A name we are becoming familiar with this season Sophie Steidle of Collingswood wins the Colonial Conference All-Star meet running 19:23. She was seventh last year as a freshman. Haddonfield with a strong showing running second through third after Steidle thanks to Allison Colflesh, Lilly Sirover, Lindsay Colflesh. 

Derek Gess of Haddonfield wins his third straight Colonial All-Star meet this time running 16:15. It this was a team scored meet Haddonfield would have had a perfect score and then some finishing in places one through seven! Gess is the second three time winner in meet history!

10/18 Cumberland County Meet  

Wow! The two winning teams were both just two points off a perfect score at 17 a piece. The Cumberland Regional boys ran 1-2-3-4-7! Miguel Vera leading the way with a solid win at 16:53. On the girls side Raelynne Miller leading the Millville girls at 19:27 the team averaging 20:56. 

10/18 Greater Morris County Junior School Class Races


10/18 Ocean County XC Championships  

Pt. Pleasant Boro swept the individual titles thanks to Devin Hart's 15:21 and Molly Kate Sabia's 18:17. On the girls side Southern Regional won a battle with Pt. Boro 59 to 65, the boys team title went to Toms River North with 53 points and a 16:34 average. Devin Hart's victory is his third straight, just the second boy to do this in county history and the first since Lakewood's Herbie Williams from 1983 to 1985. 


10/18 Skyland Conference Championships  

The two individual winners won their first XC Conference titles. Nicole Vanasse of Pingry running 18:33, this was a sure confidence booster heading into state season. Just a few seconds behind was North Hunterdon's Chloe Gonzalez and Emily Nugent in second and third 18:36 and 18:38, the led a dominant North Hunterdon attack that won its fourth straight title with 38 points and a 19:20 average. Ellie DiMarcello, Alexandra Carlson, Angela Kearsley, Addison Schmidt, Magdalyn Hoffman all performed well on this conference winning squad. A dream team right now.

John McGovern of Somerville is on fire lately. Had a great start early on, just won Somerset County coming into this, and takes control of the Skyland race at 16:11 with a gap. This is a tough course too that time should transfer well to Holmdel. Led by James Glockenmeier in third at 16:44 the Ridge boys win an absolute battle with Voorhees 63 to 65, 1 through 5 compressions of 49 seconds and 53 seconds! Should do well for both in the rankings poll this weekend. Ridge's first title since 2010.

10/20 Bergen XC Group Championships  

Ridgewood boys and girls lead the overall meet merges! The girls with 49 points, and a 19:26 average the boys with 99 points just ahead of Bergen Catholic's 117. Northern Highland's Daisy Liljegren had the fastest time of the girls meet running 18:14, the boys leader Jeremy Bronstein of Dwight Englewood at 15:48.
