Loveys Four Straight and Fourth All-Time, Battle at OCP

As usual the Battle at Ocean County Park did not disappoint. Abby Loveys won her fourth straight year, break-out stars emerged, and memorable names opened up their seasons. 

For the first time in meet history there is a four year winner. Abby Loveys of Randolph HS made it a clean sweep with a meet record of 17:28.1 to win the senior race, this meet runs grade by grade divisions and she has won them all since her freshmen year. For the all-time course list that rounds up to 17:29 and ties her for fourth all-time at Ocean County Park.. this is week 2 of the season people! And this is coming off a big run up in Warwick Valley, NY last weekend

Toms River South's Jade Tricomy, who is third all-time at this course thanks to her 17:27 win at Shore Conference last season, won the junior race running 18:41. She has a season goal to drop her time around 17:15, possibly eyeing up that 17:14 course record held by Molly McNamara of Red Bank Catholic since 2010. 

The freshmen race was won by Lucy Afanasewicz of Middletown South who ran an impressive 12:02 over 3200m to earn her first high school win in her first race. With the 15th fastest 5K time of the meet at 19:25. Meagan Mahon of Toms River North finished first in the sophomore division. 

Looking at the merge Jerika Lufrano 18:35, Kathleen Shay 18:30, and Samantha Ragenklint 18:41 make up the rest of the top five times of the meet. Holmdel led the merge score with 86 points (8+10+15+23+30) averaging 19:39 with a 1:27 split! Junior Emily Levonas leading the way for the Hornets there at 19:03. 


The boys meet was led overall by Nick Lundberg of Freehold Township HS running 15:44 to win the senior division over Benedictus Bago of Snyder in second at 15:49. Tyler Schwinn 15:53 and Cameron Janovic 16:04 right behind them. 

This brings us to the fifth fastest time of the day, 16:05, which came out of the sophomore race thanks to St. Peter's Prep standout Edwin Klanke. He's coming off a strong freshmen year where he finished fourth at Non-Public A State Championships. 

The boys junior race was won by Zach Zawatski of Freehold Township running 16:05, he's feeling like his training is paying off. The freshmen 3200m run went to Union Catholic's Myles Plummer who posted 10:07.24. 

The team merge went to NJ#1 Christian Brothers Academy scoring 112 points splitting 40 seconds and averaging 16:36. Nolan Kus 16:14, Tim Cahill 16:23, Mike Morris 16:37, Michael Dora 16:53, and Anthony Crivello 16:54. 

NJ#8 St. Peter's Prep finished second in the merge with 128 points over NJ#6 Freehold Twp's 135. Old Bridge also averaged sub-17 in fourth.
