Zyra Thomas of Schalick, one of the top throwers in the country, will sign with Rutgers University on Tuesday, Schalick Head Coach Melissa Pine said on Monday.
Thomas, the 2018 New Balance National Indoor champion in the shot put, won the shot and was second in the discus at the State Group 1 Championships to lead the Schalick girls to its first state title.
Thomas, who owns personal bests of 47-5 3/4 in the shot put, and 127-3 in the discus, placed second in the shot put and fourth in the discus at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions this past Saturday at Northern Burlington High School in Columbus.
