Ray Sellaro Out for Sectionals, Looks to Return for Group Championships

Ray Sellaro of North Hunterdon, one of the state's premier runners, will not be racing at Saturday's North Jersey, Section 2 Group 4 race this Saturday at Greystone, according to North Hunterdon coach Tom Higgins.

Higgins called the decision precautionary.

"We're being careful to avoid aggravating a stress response (tibia),'' Higgins said.

Higgins also said he expects Sellaro to be ready to go for state Group 4 race on Nov. 11 at Holmdel Park.

The UPenn-bound Sellaro, who would have been the favorite to win the sectional title, has reeled off several great performances this season. In his last race on Oct. 19, Sellaro won the Skyland Conference title with a PR of 15:39, No. 2 in course history at Natirar Park.

Sellaro's absence significantly changes the outlook for the sectional race. Without Sellaro, the individual title is now up for grabs, and the showdown between NJ #5 North Hunterdon and NJ #6 Westfield now appears to favor Westfield.
