Athing Mu Wins 800m and 1500m at AAU Junior Olympic Games

Interview with Athing Mu after her 800m semi-final.

Athing Mu of Trenton, NJ has had a very successful meet at the AAU Junior Olympic Games. After cruising to the 15-16 years old 800 meter finals she finished first overall with a 2:07.99. That is less than a second off the age group national record of 2:07.08 set by another talented New Jersey athlete Ajee' Wilson back in 2009. Mu's time would have also won the next age group up which was taken with a 2:13.03.

She already holds the fastest 800 meter girls time in the state this track season at 2:07.86 which was posted at AAU National Club Championships.

The young mid-distance star wasn't done there either, she earned gold in the 1500m as well running 4:33.04, a whole 17 seconds ahead of the field. This is all familiar territory for Mu who won the 14 year old 800m title last year with a 2:10.85 and placed second in the 1500m at 4:36.93.
