Mid June Meet Preview | Elite Track and Field Showcase


Here is a meet preview submitted by the Elite Track and Field Showcase Directors on their Entries as of June 15th.

The First Annual Elite High School Track & Field Showcase will take place this July 8 and July 22, 2016 under the lights at the beautiful Newark Schools Stadium.  Rising sophomore, junior, and senior high school athletes who achieve a given standard are eligible to compete.  A small select group of graduating seniors have been accepted based on situational circumstances.  

The showcases offer a complete event list including the sprints (100, 200, 400), distance (800, 1600, 3000/5000 and 10000 for boys), throws (discus, shot put, javelin) and jumps (triple jump, long jump, high jump, pole vault).   The events will be contested in a championship format on a set time schedule

We are more than three weeks out from the meet and the entries are heating up.  On the boys side rising Senior Cade Antonucci of Holy Ghost, NJ who is coming off a stellar performance at the Meet of Champions where he took the win, will look to establish the first meet record in the boy's javelin.

Rising Senior Harmodio Cruz of South Brunswick, NJ who is coming off a breakout spring season where he ran personal bests of 21.85 in the 200 meters and 48.13 in the 400, will look to make sure the pace is fast up front in the sprints. Joining Cruz is Pennsylvania sensation rising Junior Miles Green who also experienced a breakout season, where he ran 48.19 in the 400 meters and 53.73 in the 400 hurdles.  Rising Senior Jamil Adams 54.15 of Winslow, NJ is closely behind in the 400 hurdles coming in with a personal best of 54.15.  Joining the sprints will be Nick Shaffer of Norristown, PA who leads the 100 meter group with a 10.92 personal best.

Peter Chan of Delbarton, NJ is the current top seed in the boys Pole Vault with an impressive personal best of 14-0.

 Rising Senior Callan Davies of East Brunswick leads the 110 hurdles with his quick 14.69 personal best. Rising sophomore Jake Claricurzio of Central Bucks West, PA leads a strong 800 field, which includes six sub 1:57.0 entries already. Claricurzio holds a personal best of 1:55.22. Rising Senior Kyle Faddis of Masconomet Regional High School, Massachusets currently holds the top entry in the boys 1600 with a 4:22.74 personal best followed by a deep field of sub 4:30 boys. 

Rising Junior Ronald Kigen of St. Benedict's Prep currently leads the 5000 meter field where he holds personal bests of 9:22.99 in the 3200 and 4:23.45 in the 1600.  Rising Senior Magnus Selden of Walkill Valley High School, NJ will be leading a deep triple jump field where he is currently the number one seed with a personal best of 45-7.

Mike Beebe from Windsor, NY who just last week won the NY State meet in the high jump leads the field with a personal best of 6'6.  Rahshid Jones from Irvington, NJ leads the long jump field with a personal best of 22-7.25.

On the girls side, rising Senior Kishona McCray of Central High School (Newark) who was the Meet of Champions 100 meter hurdle champion in 14.06 and runner up in the 400-meter hurdles (her PR is 60.63 in that event) behind the great Sydney Mclaughlin will look to establish our first meet record in the hurdles. 

Rising Junior Amahri Boyce, North Star Academy, NJ leads the short sprints with personal bests of 12.64 in the 100 and 25.84 in the 200. Rising Senior Kelly Wesolowski of Hereford High School, MD will look to regain her form in the Girls 3000 where she brings a personal best of 10:47.16 (3200).

 Cassie Riley, the rising Senior from Red Bank Catholic, NJ leads the girl's high jump with a personal best jump of 5-4. Gabriella Prizio of Derby HS, CT leads the girls 1600 and 800 entries with personal bests of 5:09.84 and 2:16.12.

Rising Senior Kelsie Smith of North Stafford, VA who was the 5A State Indoor Track & Field Champion, is the top entry in the shot put and discus with personal bests of 40-2 and 117-1 respectively followed closely behind by several other athletes.
