9/25 Hedgesville Invitational, Hedgesville, WV

Mercersburg Academy competed in West Virginia last Tuesday at the Hedgesville Invitational.  James Finucane, Mercersburg, won with a time of 17:17.  Mercersburg boys finished 6th in the team scoring with 141 points.  In the girls race Lena Finucane, Mercersburg, finished 2nd in 22:22.  Shelby Johnson, Martinsburg, won in 21:16.  Mercersburg girls finished 3rd in the team scoring with 66 points.

9/28 New Balance Jersey Shore Cougar Invitational, Colts Neck High School, NJ

Unionville travelled to New Jersey to participate in the 5th annual Cougar Invitational.  In the girls race they scored 51 points to take the victory over Colts Neck, 76 points.  Unionville had 4 runners finish in the top 10.  Christine Smith, Unionville, took top honors, winning the girls Championship race in 18:45.  Allison Linnell, Colts Neck, finished 2nd in 18:50.

On a windy Friday afternoon Neely Spence made her racing debut with a time of 17:37 to win by nearly a minute on the rolling hills of Lehigh University.  Stephanie Fulmer, St. Pius X, ran 18:29 for an impressive 2nd place showing.  A strong Cumberland Valley girls squad took top honors, scoring 123 points with a spread of 1:40.  Cardinal O'Hara finished a close second with 125 points and an impressive spread of :29 seconds.  Germantown Friends boys won the Varsity boys competition with 124 points and a spread of 1:31.  Quince Orchard finished 2nd with 156 points and a spread of 1:05.  The individual championship went to Doug Smith, Gill St. Bernards, with a time of 15:10.  Max Kaulbach, Germantown Friends, was 2nd in 15:27, and Josh Izewski, CB East, finished 3rd in 15:31.   

 

9/29 12th Mercersburg Academy Invitational

    The Mercersburg Invitational saw it's host teams place 10th and 11th. The girls slotted behind 10 Maryland team. They were led by freshman Mackenzie Riford (21:04) and senior Annie Spencer (21:05), who finished 26th and 27th respectively. Senior James Finucane surged to a 3rd place finish with a time of 16:12 for the M'burg boys.

 

 

       Kara Millhouse, Boiling Springs, PRs and comes within three seconds of the meet record 
at Carlisle, outsprinting team champion Northern's #1 Rachel Wong.

The morning had a chill as the runners started to pile into Carlisle for the Reebok Challenge Invitational.  The first Varsity race of the day was the girls Reebok Challenge, won this year by Kara Millhouse, Boiling Springs, 18:18.05.  Kara took control of the race from the start as she and Rachel Wong ran together until the final meters when Kara pulled ahead for the win.  Rachel's time was 18:18.51.  The only other runner under 19 was Natalie Bower, Greater Latrobe, 18:29.29.  Northern York won the girls Reebok race with 106 points.  Their 5 scorers were all in the top 36.  North Allegheny was 2nd with 134 points, winning a tie with Cornwall, NY on the 6th runner.  In the girls Champions race Nicole Rozario, Pine Bush (NY) won with a time of 18:32.61.  Emily Martin, Garden Spot, was 2nd in 18:49.96.  Trinity won the team title with 175 points.  In the boys Reebok challenge Red Lion's Greg Kareis took first with a blistering time of 15:39.82.  He was followed closely to the line by Zach Hoagland, North Penn, 15:40.94.  Mike Palmisano, Upper Dublin, finished the charge under 16 with a 3rd place 15:59.97.  North Penn won the team competition in the Challenge race with an impressive 48 points.  All 7 runners finished in the top 30 off of a 15:39 pace.  Upper Dublin was 2nd with 76 points.  They had 5 runners in the top 33.  North Allegheny was 3rd with 127 points despite their 1-2 runners falling at the start.  In the boys Champions race Josh Wilson, James Wood (VA), won in 16:17.35.  Tim Moyer, Dallastown, was 2nd in 16:27.84.  Pine Bush (NY) won the team title with 148 points.   

 

Red Lion's Greg Kareis went 15:40 with a closing sprint to beat North Penn's Zach Hoadland by a second. North Penn put seven within 1:02 at Carlisle.

9/29 2nd Annual Souderton Invitational

In an exciting day of cross country races, two of the areas best girls teams battled with Downingtown East prevailing over North Penn by six points. Individually Downingtown's Marie Thompson pulled away in the last mile from Souderton's Becky Kratz to run 18:24 and in the process broke the course record of 18:30 set in 2001 by Upper Dublin's Katie Ewart. On the boys side Downingtown East snuck by the host Souderton Indians by one point 30 to 31 and Downingtown's Pat Ciquera won in 16:29.  

 

9/29 43rd McQuaid Invitational, Rochester, NY

    Elk County Catholic had two top ten finishers in the 43rd McQuaid Invitational. Alex Brazinsi finished 8th in the small division with a time of 16:00 during the 3-mile race. That was one second better than teammate, Tyler Prokop (16:01) who placed 9th. Coudersport sophomore, Emily Gianotti placed 4th in the girls' small division with a time of 18:40. 

 

9/29 Bull Run Invitational, Hereford High School, MD

The Strath Haven girls team travelled to Maryland to compete in the Bull Run Invitational.  They ran to a 81-81 tie with Severna Park for the win which was broken by 6th runner scoring (Severna Park 30th and Strath Haven 31st).  Melissa Frick, Strath Haven, was 2nd overall with a time of 19:32.  Kristen Malloy, Hereford, won with a course record 18:39. 
 

 

9/29 Bulldog Invitational-Rose Tree Park

On a cool morning at Rose Tree Park Chris Bodary, Bishop Shanahan, won the boys large school race with a time of 15:35.40.  Nick Crits, Wissahickon, finished 2nd in 15:47.50, and led his team to victory with 65 points.  Second place in the team standings went to Cardinal O'Hara with 70 points.  In the small school boys race Matt Sinnott and Dave Smith, both of Springfield Delco, were 1st and 2nd with times of 16:54.80 and 16:56.50.  Upper Moreland won the team title with 60 points, while the battle for 2nd was a lot closer.  Radnor was 2nd with 68 points and Springfield Delco was 3rd with 69 points.  In the girls large school race Shaniel Chambers, Chester, took top honors, running a time of 19:13.80.  Kaylee Irwin, Hatboro-Horsham, was 2nd with a time of 19:26.40.  Hatboro-Horsham won the team title over Central Bucks West, 55-72.  In the girls small school race Kelyn Freedman, Radnor, won in 19:21.70 and led her team to a 3 point victory over Germantown Friends, 64-67. 
 

 

9/29 Cochranton Invitational

    The Meadville Girls cruised to team title at the Cochranton Invitational. Elesia Wilson (19:33) and Caitlin Hancox (19:47) placed second and fourth overall to lead M'ville to victory. Ft. LeBoeuf's Ciara Shorts won the race in a time of 19:23. Grove City's Megan Degraff rounded out the top three at 19:40.

    On the boy's side Slippery Rock edged Meadville, 75-84 for the win. M'ville's Andrew Geist (15:30) and Richard Peterson (16:09) finished first and second in the race. Jacob Kildoo(16:28) was third, helping Grove City to a 3rd place team finish. Slippery Rock's Nathan King was fourth with a time of 16:35.

 

9/29 Council Rock Invitational

PARTIAL RESULTS POSTED

The Council Rock North and Christopher Dock Girls won the Big and Small School titles at the Council Rock Invitational. CRN swept spots 4-7 to help secure their 36-64 win over Pennridge. Christopher Dock cruised to a 100-181 win over Nazareth Academy. NA's Megan Lutz (18:59) cruised to the individual crown over Dock's Beth Lambright (19:38).

    In the Boys' Race, Pennridge and Jenkintown were the Big and Small School team winners. Archbishop Ryan's Sean Mallon won the overall race with a time of 16:21. He beat CRN's Dan Wallace (16:27) by six seconds.

 

 

9/29 Freedom Area Mixed XC Relay

    Our Lady of Sacred Heart's A team won the Freedom Mixed Relays at Brush Creek Park with a time of 51:38. The 4x2 mile relay teams were comprised of two boys and two girls. Ryan Barlow of Freedom A had the top individual time of 11:57. OLSH A's Evan Dalesio placed second with a 12:10 and Sarah Canny was 6th with a 12:54 and was the top girl.

9/29 Spiked Shoe Invitational, Penn State University

Carly Seymour continues her torrid pace of winning invitationals, taking top honors at the Spiked Shoe with a time of 17:57.  Lewisburg teammates Sophia Zeiman and Casey Miller were 2nd and 3rd with times of 18:41 and 18:43.  Laren Zarger, Horbor Creek, was 4th in 18:47 and Sarah Strayer, Forest Hills, was 5th in 18:53.  Lewisburg won the team title with a slim 1 point margin over Central Cambria, 76-77.  In the boys Varsity race Bill Cooney, Abington Heights, won in a time of 16:44.  Tulpehocken soph Tyler Reigel was 2nd in 16:51.  Abington Heights won the team competition by a comfortable margin with 87 points.

Weekend Preview:  This is the weekend where three major meets take center stage, beginning with the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus on Friday. Two ranked New York teams will compete, including the Newburgh Free Academy boys and the Bay Shore girls. Both are in the large school AA classification. In the boys' race, they'll meet nationally ranked and PA#1 Germantown Friends, plus PA ranked teams, # 4 Cumberland Valley and #9 Penncrest. Other top PA teams include Haverford Township and LaSalle College High School. Gill St. Bernards NJ junior Doug Smith is one of the top individuals in the race, currently ranked #5 in the MileSplit Northeast Foot Locker Power Rankings. In addition to Bay Shore NY, top girls teams include PA#6 Cumberland Valley, PA#10 Cardinal O'Hara, plus previously ranked Perkiomen Valley. Top individuals include defending champ Neely Spence of Shippensburg, making her 2007 debut in a large invitational, along with Chanelle Price of Easton, and Sarah Simonetti of Pennridge. At the Carlisle Invitational, the girls Challenge Race will include PA#2 Northern York, PA#4 Latrobe, PA#9 Parkland and PA#10 North Allegheny, plus previously ranked Mount Lebanon, Chambersburg and West Chester Henderson. The boys Challenge race will put PA#2 North Allegheny into the same race with PA#8 Holy Ghost Prep, plus PA#5 Upper Dublin, PA#6 Mount Lebanon, and previously ranked Cedar Cliff, Coatesville and Hatboro-Horsham. North Allegheny had nipped Holy Ghost Prep by a single point in the combined scoring at the 9/22 Inaugural Hershey XC Invitational. And at the Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State University, PA#8 Central Cambria and Lewisburg girls face off for the second week in a row. Central Cambria took the first match-up last weekend at Hershey. PA Teams are also traveling to meets in West Virginia, Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland and New York.
