Westwood senior runs 2:11.75

Who: Corinne Myers (Westwood HS '14)

What: Corinne ran a 2:11.75 800m. The current NJ #1 and US #14 mark for the event.

When: Thursday, April 17th

Where: The Red Raider Relays @ North Rockland HS (Theils NY)

It's about 25 miles from Westwood to Theils, NY, which is where Corinne Myers headed to tack on an extra 800 meters to her trip. Myers covered that distance in a time that is currently the #1 mark in NJ and the 14th fastest time in the country so far this year. There is not a lot of open racing going on in this part of the country right now. Early season relay meets are the norm in April, but Corinne and the Westwood team made the trek to the Red raider Relays at North Rockland HS to get an open race under her belt.

The team has been racing at this meet for the last few years and according to Westwood coach George Glover, "The competition is always good in the open races and it's a great way to test yourself before Penn and the championship meets begin." Myers  time is only about 2 seconds off of her PR and she feels very good about the results " I have really big expectations for myself this season." Myers ran 2:17.21 at this same meet last year. Said Glover "We both figured that she could run in the 2:12-2:14 range. She was in 3rd at the 400m mark, something she is not used to. I think that revved her up for the 2:11."

Westwood will be running in the 4x800m Relay trials on Thursday morning, hoping to earn a ticket into the Championship of America final on Friday. Myers is looking forward to the race "I'm very excited for our relay", she said, "I'm hoping to get the baton in a good spot for catching people. I can't wait to be back on Franklin Field."

As for the rest of the Outdoor Campaign, Corinne has the big picture in mind as she focuses on team as well as personal success. "My goal is to represent God, my school, team, coaches and parents all in the best way that I possibly can." I am hoping to be state champion in the 800m again and am also hoping to be successful in the relays again."  After graduation this spring, Corinne will continue her academic and athletic career at Northeastern University in Boston. "I'm looking forward to starting a new chapter of my life at Northeastern. The team is great, the coaches are great and there is no better place to be than Boston. I am looking forward to improving myself on the track, in the classroom and as a person overall." There is little doubt here that Corinne will accomplish all this and more.
