Longtime Felician Cross-Country Coaches Resign

May 13, 2015

RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Felician College head women's and men's cross-country and women's track & field coach John Brennan of Clark, and his lead assistant, Sebastian Powell of West Orange, have resigned from those positions, Felician director of athletics Ben DiNallo Jr. announced today.

Brennan, the principal of Hardyston Elementary School in Franklin, will become the head women's cross-country coach at his alma mater, Montclair State University. Powell, who is completing his first year as principal of elementary schools in the Belvidere school district, is choosing to devote more time to his professional career.

Brennan and Powell have guided the Felician women's and men's cross-country squads since 2002, building the men's team into a dynasty in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). With Powell by his side, Brennan was named CACC Men's Coach of the Year six times. He has been the head coach for seven of the Golden Falcons' nine team championships on the men's side, including five in a row from 2004-08.

"It is with great sadness that I have accepted the resignations of John and Sebastian," DiNallo said. "Over the last decade-plus, these two men have stewarded our cross-country programs to unprecedented success both on and off the course. Their contributions to Felician athletics, and to the college community as a whole, are lasting, and we will miss them greatly."

Brennan and Powell coached six CACC cross-country Runners of the Year (two women, four men) and 71 all-league performers. Brennan was a Felician assistant when the Golden Falcon men won conference titles in 2000 and 2001 and claimed the Runner of the Year each season.

Brennan and Powell comprised the first coaching staff for Felician's women's outdoor track & field team, which debuted in 2015.
