BERGEN COUNTY GIRLS XC RANKINGS1) IHA- 14th place finish in the talent loaded Girls Eastern States Championship race at the Manhattan Invitational on Saturday, October 13th.  In the process Immaculate Heart defeated New Jersey’s #2 ranked and the Northeast’s #7 ranked team Monsignor Donovan. In all IHA had 3 runners break 16 minutes on the classic 2.5 mile course.  Leading the way for the Blue Eagles was junior Sarah Pagano, who placed 17th in 14:51.3.  Her time was the fastest time for a Bergen county girl in 23 years.  She was followed by fellow junior Mary Kaye Duff who finished in 15:42.2. Freshman Erin Thompson ran 15:52.5 and senior Sarah Mellea and sophomore Julie Sinkovitz both narrowly missed going under the 16 minute barrier as they finished in 16:00.4 and 16:01.0. Senior Maggie Senor (16:38.2) and Nadine Nixon (18:45) rounded out the top 7 for IHA. The next race for the Blue Eagles will be the Bergen County Group Championships on October 20th.  IHA will be in the group A race. 2) HOLY ANGELS- AHA takes 5th place in girl’s varsity C race at the Manhattan Invitational. Their 5 girl spread was 39 seconds.  Frosh Jen Molkie placed 25th in 16:12.1 and teammate Suzana Markolovic was 32nd in 16:19.9.  Kat Bagelice completed the 2.5 mile course in 16:24.2; Stephanie Gibney (16:41.5) and Alison Gadaleta (16:51.1) were Holy Angel’s top 5. Holy Angels will next race in the Bergen County Group Championships B race on October 20th.    3) NORTHERN HIGHLANDS- Win NBIL league meet by 31 points with a 20:21.2 team average at Darlington on Friday, October 12th.  The Highlanders put 4 girls in the top 15 which was spearheaded by Katie Nestor’s 4th place finish in 19:22.  Charlotte Tregelles was 5th in 19:48, Dylan Palin placed 11th in 20:28 and Allie Silverman was 13th in 20:40.  Katie Dibella was Highlands 5th placing 22nd in 21:28.  The Highlanders will next compete in the A race at the Bergen County Group Championships at Darlington on - 2007-10-18 09:22:52

The Stony Brook women’s cross country team – not even ranked Div. I – placed fifth in the big Notre Dame Invitational over the weekend, led by the great running of the twin sisters Lucy and Holly Van Dalen. 2009 Texas Relays will go down as the meet where records were broken. Hayden broke a 8 year old stadium record with a 72-02.25 throw which also leads the nation. - 2009-04-04 20:04:00

Only two events are being contested on Friday at the Nike Indoor Nationals as the meet has extended from its usual Saturday-Sunday two day format to accomodate the weight throw and 5000 meter run. The weight throw has stacked fields with the US leaders for both boys and girls and many of the US top 10 performances also present. Meanwhile, the 5000 meter run is definitely missing many of the considered elite distance runners in the country, but will be a good opportunity for a next tier of runners to step up and become Nike national champions.
