GREENSBORO, N.C. – Her teammates gathered around with a large piece of paper and a sly grin. She sat surrounded by reporters, dazed and still a bit confused at what just happened until she turned to recognize them.

Three of country’s top milers have accepted invitations to race in the high school mile at the Millrose Games Jan. 29, including Roslyn’s Emily Lipari. Race directors also gave automatic bids to Anthony Kostelac of Ablemarle (Va.) and last year’s runner-up Cory McGee of Pass Christian (Miss.). Lipari ran the fastest mile time in the country last indoor season in 4:47.44.

WAPPINGERS FALLS – The stories were so alike it was eerie. Uncertainty. Doubt. Underestimation. They both listened to the scores read backwards during the awards ceremony and for an instance, when the announcer called the second place team, they thought that maybe they had blown it. Then they won. Relief. Excitement.

The only runner capable of challenging Joe Rosa's pursuit of yet another meet record on Saturday was family. Bearing identical blue singlets and shocks of red hair, Rosa and twin brother Jim, juniors from West Windsor Plainsboro North, were indistinguishable as they surged stride-for-stride into Van Cortlandt Park's back hills on Saturday at the Manhattan Invitational.

Girls - Chelsea Ley (Jr. / Kingsway Reg.) Running 17:24 and breaking her own course (17:35) is impressive on any day. But to do it in the monsoon like conditions that prevailed at the SJ Sectional on Saturday makes it even better. Chelsea Ley makes her second appearance as Girls ROW after her dominating (45 sec.) win in the Gr. 3 race at Delsea.
