Above is an interview with Indian Hills' Steven Fiumefreddo after his win at Six Flags Wild Safari.
We took all three Championship meets for the Big North and merged them together into one scoring meet. All three meets were run at Darlington Park in Mahwah, NJ. Some of the top teams and individuals in our state took to the course at these meets.
Bill Byrne of Ridgewood had the fastest time of the merge with a 15:32. A time which won him the Freedom Division individual title and led his squad to second with 32 points in their division, 44 points in the merge. The Ridgewood boys averaged 16:03 and split 59 seconds among their top five.
The best boys team in the merge was Indian Hills at 26 points, impressively only three points over the 23 they scored in the six team Freedom Division. There were 39 scoring teams when all the races were combined. They were led by Tom Holster 15:44, Steven Fiumefreddo 15:52, and Chris Corcoran 15:57 finishing second through fourth. The squad as a whole averaged 15:56 and split a mere 24 seconds between them.
On the girls side last year's Meet of Champions runner up Olympia Martin of Ridgewood had the fastest individual time of 18:21. She did so winning the Freedom division, helping her school take second in their meet as well as the merge with a 19:57 average.
The girls team scores combined was won by another Freedom Division team Northern Highlands who scored 38 points to win their division and 93 points to lead the merge of 36 teams. Monica Hebner started them off with the second fastest time of all the results combined running 18:38, Isabel Hebner also made it under the 19 minute mark with an 18:56 finish of her own.
