Mendham Boys 2nd to US #1 Loudoun Valley, Mehlhorn Wins

The NJ #9 Mendham boys lined up against the No. 1 team in the nation, Loudoun Valley of Va., at the PTXC 10 Invitational at the Farm Course on Saturday at Kutztown University in Pa.

No, Mendham didn't pull off the monumental upset. But it did come away with a very impressive runner-up finish in the Gold Division race.

Loudoun Valley did what was expected by jamming its scoring five in the top 12 places and averaging 15:59 on its way to a 25-129 victory over Mendham. Loudoun Valley won the team merge over Mendham, 26-141. 

Mendham, with Jack Stanley leading the way with a third-place finish in 15:55., averaged 16:47 and outscored third-place Calvert Hall of Maryland, 129-187. 

In the girls competition,  Montgomery freshman Caroline Mehlhorn ran 19:01 to win the Blue Division race by 26 seconds over Montville senior Anna George (19:27). Montgomery placed fourth in the team standings and  Montville was 22nd.
