Salute To Seniors: Kameron Davis - Southridge High School

The 2017-2018 school year has provided some great highlights in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. In the coming weeks many of our seniors will head out to start their college careers both athletically and academically. We wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature and say thank you for your support over the years.

Today we salute Miami Southridge senior Kameron Davis. Davis was one of the most consistent hurdlers in Florida this season finishing third or better in every meet in the 110's including a runner-up finish at the 4A state meet. He will continue his academic and athletic career at Kennesaw State University.

What was your most memorable race/moment?

My most memorable race was February 17, 2018 when I won the Louie Bing Classic.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

My biggest competition was Jermaine Byrd from St. Thomas Aquinas. We would always go back and forth in the 110h and before him it was Damion Thomas from Northeast who is now at LSU.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

The greatest accomplishment was straining my hamstring at regionals and placing second at state a week later.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

The only thing I would change is my work ethic and train harder.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

The most difficult obstacle I had to overcome was adversity and negativity from my peers and adults in my life. Someone constantly trying to bring you down is depressing, but it makes you work harder to prove them wrong!

What will you miss the most?

I will miss my teammates the most and secondly I will miss competing with my friends from different schools.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

I would tell younger athletes to run their heart out their high school career from freshmen year to junior year so senior year you won't have to worry about hitting a time for a college to look at you.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coach, Joey Scott has been my coach since the 8th grade. My sophomore year, I went to New Balance Outdoor Nationals, and my coach had a sit down with me and discussed that he wasn't proud of my performances. From there on out our bond grew. I listened more, and I changed from that point on out. There wasn't anymore bad races and disappointments in my coaches eyes from here on out because I worked harder and when track meets came I made sure I executed my race like I did in practice. Very much respect for my coach, he's like another father to me.

What are your college plans?

I am attending Kennesaw State University on a track and field scholarship. Go OWLS #KSU22

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to say thank you to God for allowing me to run and giving me this ability. Thank you to Coach Joey, of course for being there for me and teaching me everything I know when it comes to my sport. Thank you to my parents for supporting my decisions through out life.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Florida > ANY STATE.
