We are the Champions: A Look at Every Sectional Team Winner


There were first time champions, long droughts snapped, a state record set, a co-championship that resulted from great sportsmanship, and there were three programs that swept titles at the NJSIAA Sectional Championships, which concluded on Saturday.

New Providence, Rahway and Rancocas Valley were the three programs that captured both boys and girls titles. The Haddonfield girls won a state record 18th title, and Hanover Park and Whippany Park shared a title.

When the dust settled, 41 sectional team champions were crowned. 

Here's a look at all the champs. Congrats!!!             

Note-The Public School Sectional Championships began in 1968. The Non-Public Championships began in 2010. 

NORTH JERSEY, SECTION 1

BOYS


Group 4: West Orange - Team Breakdown - edged defending champ Ridgewood, 59-54, for 1st title since 2007 and 3rd overall 


Group 3: Old Tappan - Team Breakdown -  defeated Indian Hills, 94.25-67 for 5th title in past 7 years and 9th overall   
Group 2: Demarest - Team Breakdown -  outscored River Dell, 147-57 for 2nd straight title and 8th overall 


Group 1: Cresskill - Team Breakdown - outpointed Saddle Brook, 88-75 to win 1st title since 1998 and 5th overall

GIRLS


Group 4: Ridgewood - Team Breakdown -  Defeated defending champ Randolph, 96-85 1/2 for 2nd title in past 3 years and 12th overall, a sectional record and the 5th most in state history


Group 3: Northern Highlands - Team Breakdown - Edged Ramapo in a thriller, 94.50-93 for its sixth straight overall title, tied with Winslow for the longest current sectional winning streak in New Jersey.     


Group 2:  River Dell -
Team Breakdown - Won its third straight title and 5th overall with a 91-65 victory over Newton 
Group 1: Hasbrouck Heights - Team Breakdown - Defeated Wallkill Valley, 132 1/2-122 for 2nd straight title and 6th overall

NORTH JERSEY, SECTION 2

BOYS

Group 4: East Orange - Team Breakdown - Rolled to its fourth straight title and 6th overall with 118-65 triumph over North Hunterdon 


Group 3: Rahway - Team Breakdown - The Indians won its 2nd title in 3 years and its 11th overall, tied for No. 3 in the history of the section, with 111-62 victory over Hopewell Valley  
Group 2: West Side - Team Breakdown - The Roughriders ended a 30-year drought by winning its third title ever with a 125-95 decision over Whippany Park. 
Group 1: New Providence- Team Breakdown - The Pioneers moved into a second-place tie for most sectional titles in state history by winning its 19th with 131-72 victory over Shabazz. Metuchen has state record with 26 and New Providence and Trenton are tied with 2nd with 19.    

GIRLS

Group 4: North Hunterdon - Team Breakdown - The Lions returned to the top for the first time since winning a sixth straight Central Jersey, Group 3 crown in 1987 by dethroning Skyland Conf. rival Ridge, 95-90. 


Group 3: Rahway - Team Breakdown - The Indians won its first title since capturing a 2nd straight CJ, G2 title in 2006 with a 71-65.83 victory over two-time defending champ Middletown North 
Group 2: Hanover Park and Whippany Park - Team Breakdowns (HP / WP) The Morris County rivals share the title after the Hanover Park coach noticed his team was accidentally awarded two more points than it earned. So after the mistake was corrected, both teams ended up tied with 85 points. It's the 8th title for Hanover Park and the 5th for Whippany Park.
Group 1:  New Providence - Team Breakdown - The Pioneers threw down a dominating 161-84 victory over Shabazz  for its 4th straight title and 13th overall, the fourth most in state history

CENTRAL JERSEY

BOYS


Group 4: Princeton - Team Breakdown - The Tigers outscored two-time defending champ Frankiln, 105-63, for its first title since 1989 and 5th overall.    


Group 3: West Windsor-Plainsboro North - Team Breakdown -  The NJ, Sec. 2 champs last year won its 5th title overall with a 77-68 victory over Mercer County rival Nottingham. 
Group 2: Matawan - Team Breakdown - The Huskies made it 5 straight titles and 12 overall with 
Group 1:  Riverside - Team Breakdown - With a 100-76 over perennial power Metuchen, Riverside captured its first sectional title ever.   

GIRLS


Group 4: South Brunswick - Team Breakdown - The Vikings outscored West Windsor-Plainsboro South, 79.20-64.20, for its 4th straight championships and 9th overall.


Group 3:  Colts Neck - Team Breakdown - The Cougars broke through to win its first title ever with a  


Group 2: Gov. Livingston - Team Breakdown - The Highlanders edged Rumson, 88.50-82, for its second title ever. The other came in NJ, Sec. 2 G2 in 2001.


Group 1: Middlesex - Team Breakdown - The Blue Jays made history by winning its first sectional title ever with a 98-90 victory over Highland Park.  

SOUTH JERSEY 

BOYS


Group 4: Rancocas Valley - Team Breakdown - With its 89-75 win over defending champion Egg Harbor, RV captured its third title overall (1977, 2015) .


Group 3: Delsea  - Team Breakdown - Rang up 140 points to win 2nd straight title and 5th overall, 140-76 over Deptford. 


Group 2: Willingboro - Team Breakdown - Coach Martin Booker's squad edged Pleasantville, 68-65, for its first title since 2012 and its 16th overall, the most in SJ history and the fifth most in state history.
Group 1:  Haddon Heights - Team Breakdown - With its thrilling 72-70 win over Clayton, Haddon Heights won its first since 1994 and its 7th overall.

GIRLS


Group 4: Rancocas Valley - Team Breakdown - Won its first title ever with a 76-71 victory over Egg Harbor.  


Group 3: Winslow - Team Breakdown - The streak continues as Winslow steamrolled its way to a 141-57 1/2 win over Mainland for its sixth straight title and 11th overall. Winslow's 6 straight titles is tied with Northern Higlands for longest current sectional streak in the state.   


Group 2: Haddonfield Team Breakdown - The Bulldogs now own the outright state sectional record with 18th title after its 108-71 victory over Cinnaminson. Haddonfield, which last won in 2014, had shared the state record of 17 with Columbia.


Group 1:  Schalick - Team Breakdown - Won 2nd straight and 7th title overall with 101-95 win over Collingswood.

NON-PUBLIC

(Note-Non-Public Sectionals began in 2010)

BOYS


North Jersey A: Delbarton - Team Breakdown The Green Wave won its first title with a 124-112 victory over St. Peter's Prep. 


North Jersey B: Dwight-Engelwood - Team Breakdown - Defeated Immaculate Conception, 149-85 for 2nd straight title.


South Jersey A: Christian Brothers - Team Breakdown - The Colts won its third straight and 7th overall with a 138-117 victory over Union Catholic.


South Jersey B: Mater Dei - Team Breakdown - Won 2nd straight title with 157-76 victory over Wildwood Catholic.

GIRLS

North Jersey A: Paramus Catholic - Team Breakdown - Won 2nd straight title with 157.75 victory over Holy Angels

North Jersey B: Newark Academy - Team BreakdownCaptured its 2nd straight championship with 89-70 win over Villa Walsh

South Jersey A: Union Catholic - Team Breakdown - The Vikings made it four straight titles with 185-92 triumph over Paul VI. 
South Jersey B: Holy Spirit - Team Breakdown - Won first title by edging St. Rose, 88-84.
