Hey all you track and field nuts out there, I'm back at the track and I'm pretty jacked up about it.   

The NJ Track and Field Express is all gassed up and is ready to make a trip into Bulldog Nation today for the 9th annual Metuchen Relays.

Action starts at 9 a.m with the 5-K.

Highlights will be down below. Videos and photos will be added later, so be sure to check back-it will be well worth it!!

With the Penn Relays just 19 days away, many teams and individuals will be shooting for qualifiers today. The deadline to update performances for the individual events at Penn is tommorow (Sunday) at noon while the deadline to update DM and 4x800 times in April 15 (next Sunday at noon).

Here we go!! It's show time.

8:50 a.m. There are a record number of teams here-45 to be exact. It's chilly and windy here-perfect XC weather. But it was a great call by meet director Marty Holleran to not call off this meet earlier in the week.  

8:52 a.m. Just saw a few flurries. Got to love NJ track and field in April!!!! 
  
8:53 a.m. The boys 5K is on the track.

GET UR FAHD NASSER ON!!!
The McNair stud is on the line for this. Fahd won the state Group 1 XC title and was a FL finalist this past XC season.

9:08 a.m. Nasser, who hit two miles in 9:58, pulled away over the final half mile to win in around 15:28.29. Dan Gizzo of Seton Hall Prep is 2nd in 15:37.

9:15 a.m. The unseeded 5-K boys plus junior Jerika Lufrano of UC is now on the track. Lufrano is chasing a fast time here. The meet record of 17:53 is in trouble.

9:32 a.m.  Here comes Lufrano!!!! She is going to smash the meet record. 17:45.79 for Lufrano!!!!!  That qualifies Lufrano for New Balance Nationals!!! Danielle Leavitt of Lacey had the record of 17:53.64, which she set in 2013.   
  
9:35 a.m. Next up is a girls 5K heat.

10:00 a.m. Girls 400 H is on deck. 10 heats

10:02 a.m. Union Catholic goes 1-2 in the first heat of the girls 400 H as Zamira Ysaac is first in 1:06.00 and Brianna Ewing 2nd in 1:06.10.

10:29 a.m. Boys 400 IH is next. 14 heats

10:40 a.m. Check out the LIVE FULL RESULTS 

10:45 a.m. Kevin Porch of Long Branch runs 56.60 to win first heat of the boys 400 IH. That time holds up as the winning time. 

10:50 It's time for some 4x100's. Girls first.

10:52 a.m. Piscataway takes the first girls 4x100 heat in 50.11. That's the winning time. 

11:01  a.m. Boys 4x100 is on deck.

11:07 a.m. North Plainfield burns the top time in the boys 4x100 with a 44.23.

11:14 a.m. The girls 4x800 is next.  This should be a Union County battle between Westfield and UC.

11:24 a.m. UC's Leena Morant comes from way back on the anchor leg with a 2:16 carry to reel in Westfield to give UC the win in 9:42.47. Westfield 2nd in 9:44.55.    

11:28 a.m. The boys 4x800 is on the track now. East Brunswick is chasing a Penn qualifier, which is 8:08. 

11:37 a.m. East Brunswick wins the 4x8 big in around 8:10. It will have one last attempt at making Penn when it runs at its Invitational next Saturday. Last year, EB was the final Large School 4x800 qualifier into Penn when it ran 8:04.93 at its Invit. Can the Bears repeat the magic next week?? Stay tuned! 

11:53 a.m. Girls 4x2 is on deck

11:56 a.m. Great battle between UC and Union in the girls 4x200 as the 2 teams are side-by-side with 100 to go.  Khamil Evans pulls ahead right before the line to give UC another win in 1:44.60. Union was second  in 1:44.73. Evans came from way back and split 24.9!! UC is showing why it is the No. 1 team in N.J. 

12 p.m. GET UR COLONIA SWEEP ON IN THE BOYS LJ.  Ayomide Oyewole won with a 20-7. Nelson Wyatt 2nd with a 20-4 1/2, and Dylan Hendricks 3rd with a 20-0 3/4. 

12:05 p.m. Time for the boys 4x200.
This should be a hot one between Seton Hall Prep and St. Peter's Prep.
Seton Hall Prep, after a close loss in the 4x100,  comes back to the win the 4x20 in 1:31.61. St. Peter's is 2nd in 1:32.14. 
Look out for Seton Hall Prep in the Super SMR later in the meet as the same 4 guys will be sharing the baton   in the 1,m
12:10 p.m. 4 heats of the girls 1,600 are next 

12:15 p.m. Camile Lussier of Metuchen wins the girls 1,600 in 5:33.78

12:17 p.m. Big PR of 5-2 by soph. Alexandra Kwasnik of UC to win the high jump.

12:31 p.m. Gabby Sanchez of Highland Park wins the girls LJ by going 16-1, one inch ahead of Iria Paz of North Bergen.  

12:50 p.m. I just ran into Brick stud distance runner Damien Dilcher. He told me he's going to a Penn qualifier in the 1,600. Penn's standard is 4:20 for the mile, so he is gunning for 4:18 in thjis 1,600.

1:22 p.m. It's Dilcher time!!!
First heat of the boys 1,600 is up!
Dilcher is out in 63.5 and 2:08.6 at the 800. He hits 1,200 in 3:15.8. Needs a quick last 1/4. Dilcher comes across the line first in 4:23.89.

1:27 p.m. 6 more boys 1600 heats.

1:47 p.m. The boys 1,600 heats are still going.

1:48 p.m. The girls 100 HH are next.

2:11 p.m. Brianna Ewing of UC, 2nd in the 400 H earlier, just led a 1-2 finish for UC by winning the HH in a PR of 14.87. I know how much Brianna loves to see those numbers. First time under 15!!!  Felicia Quianoo takes 2nd.

2:30 p.m. Ola Akande of Rahway wins the boys HH in 14.75, edging Naseem Smith of Deptford, 2nd in 14.78. Ryan McLaughlin of UC is third in 14.98. Ugonna Ike of Linden is 4th in 15.00. Those are the top 4 times run in NJ this season!!

2:45 p.m. Still running the boys HH

2:52 p.m. The girls SMR in on the track. 58.1 nd UC should rock this race.

2:56 p.m. UC goes 4:15.64!! Leena Morant droped a 58.1 400 for UC and Zamira Ysaac had a 2:23.8 anchor carry

3:10 p.m. Time for the boys SMR.

3:15 p.m. Chris Smith just split 1:58.1 and came from way back on the anchor leg to rally past Edwin Klanke of St. Peter's Prep and give Edison the win in the SMR in 3:36.83.

3:30 p.m. Girls 400's are next. Lots of heats.

Cynthia Boryeskne of Edison runs 1:00.19 to win the girls 400.

3:50 p.m. Boys 400- Andrew Canale of CBA is the only guy under 50 with a NJ #1 time of 49.37.

4:15 p.m. The Super Sprint Medley is next -AKA the Marty Holleran Special! The race is 100, 100, 200 and 400.

4:25 p.m. Khamil Evans just threw down her second big anchor of the meet with a 58.3 to bring UC across first in the first heat of the girls Super (800) SMR in 1:50.49. Union grabs the victory by going 1:49.71 in the 2nd heat

4:30 p.m. The boys Super SMR should be lit with Seton Hall Prep, UC and Rahway hooking up.
Seton Hall never got the stick around and Rahway edged UC, 1:33.84 to 1:34.07 in a great anchor battle between Rahway's Marvin Polynice, who ripped a 49.1, and UC's Elijah Brown, who burned a 48.6.

4:45 p.m. DMR's are next.

4:58 p.m. RBC wins the girls DMR in 

5:02 p.m. GET UR SKYLAND DMR BATON BATTLE ON!!! VOORHEES VS. NORTH HUNTERDON!!!! They are both looking for a fast time to try to make Penn!!!!  

Romero gets the baton about 30 yards ahead of Sellaro on the anchor.

ROMERO THROWS DOWN A 4:16.5 TO BRING VOORHEES ACROSS FIRST IN a NJ #1 and US #10 10:21.52!!!!!  That could get them into Penn? Voorhees plans to load it up one more time next Saturday at the Skyland Conf. Relays at Ridge.

5:20 p.m 4x400 are next

5:25 p.m. UC girls cap off a fantastic meet by winning the 4x400 in 4:07.98. Ashleigh Patterson had a 59.9 thieg for UC.

5:37 p.m. UC wins the boys 4x400 in 3:28.17. Elijah Brown anchored for UC in 50.5.

5:40 p.m. That's a wrap.
