South Brunswick became the first program to pull off the team title sweep in 13 years, Shelby Piccinic of Colonia became the 10th girl to win two straight titles, and Jake Beacher became the second boy champion from Metuchen at Saturday's Greater Middlesex Conference Championships at Thompson Park in Jamesburg.

South Brunswick is the first program to win both the boys and girls GMC titles since Old Bridge accomplished the feat in 2004.

In the girls race, Piccinic, a senior, ran 18:57 to win by 5 seconds over runner-up Kayla Rosario of Sayreville. The South Brunswick girls rolled to its third straight title, 56-95 over runner-up Metuchen 56-95. South Brunswick's top five finished 3-4-10-19-20 and averaged 20:05.5

That's the 10th overall county title for the South Brunswick girls, the second most in GMC girls history behind Old Bridge's 15

In the boys race, Beacher, a senior, crossed the line first in 15:57 to join Larry Weiss (1989) as Metuchen's only boys to win the county title. Beacher edged Old Bridge's Cyril Harvey by two seconds for the win.

The South Brunswick boys went 5-10-13-18-26 and averaged 16:33.7 to defeat runner-up East Brunswick, 73-84. Old Bridge was third with 87, and defending champion Metuchen fourth with 96.

It's the third county title for the South Brunswick boys, who also won in 2013 and 2014.
