Union Catholic Runs Well at Paul Short

The Union Catholic boys finished a very impressive third, the girls placed a strong seventh and the Vikings dropped several personal best times at Friday's Paul Short Cross-Country Invitational at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
 
Competing in the White Division race, the UC boys put its top five runners all under 17 minutes and received four personal bests on the way to its strong third-place finish in the field of 41 teams with 132 points. Monroe-Woodbury of New York won with 107 and Cornwall of New York was second with 114.
 
The top five for UC were senior Andre Rodriguez, seventh among the field of 352 runners in 16:15, senior Justin Cadas, 19th in 16:42, senior Trevor Garrity, 34th in 16:54, junior Max Berg, 38th in a personal best 16:56, and senior Gerard Rokosz, 44th in a personal best 16:59. UC's No. 6 runner Brian Malar (17:45) and No. 7 runner Zach Turner (17:53) each ran personal best times.
 
On the girls side, the Vikings picked six personal best times in the varsity races to finish seventh in the Brown Division race in the field of 33 teams with 299 points. Centerville of Pa. won the team title with 61 points.
 
The all-underclassmen lineup for the Vikings was led by junior Jerika Lufrano, who placed ninth in the field of 296 runners with a personal best of 18:28. Sophomore Leena Morant finished 52nd in a personal best 19:38, sophomore Zoe Lee was 76th in a personal best 20:01, sophomore Ashleigh Patterson finished 84th in a personal best 20:04, sophomore Zamira Ysaac ran a huge personal best of 20:22 to finish 107th. Junior Megan McCabe ran 21:06 to place 163rd, and junior Monika Wlodarski ran a PR of 21:29 to finish 191st.
