Boys Group 3 Recap | Colts Neck's Distance Dominance Leads to Second Straight Title

The Colts Neck boys won their second straight state title at Group 3 Championships on Saturday. Complimenting a 6-04 high jump win by Ryan Tompkins in the high jump for 10 points, the rest of their 43 point total came from a strong showing in the 1600 and 3200 meter races. 

The 1600 meter featured another showdown between Elliot Gindi of Ocean Twp and Jordan Brannan of Colts Neck, this time Gindi took gold running 4:17.56 and Brannan second at 4:17.72. Colts Neck also had Matthew Schaefer finish sixth in that race with a time of 4:26.10. 

The biggest event for Colts Neck came later on in the 3200 meter when they swept the top three for the second week in a row. Jordan Brannan won running 9:17.77, Anthony Russo second at 9:24.24, and Kevin Berry third with a 9:24.26. Other highlights included... Marvin Morgan of Neptune ran a new state leading time in the 55 meter with a 6.38, now ranks US#11. Martin Booker Jr of Pennsauken ran the seventh fastest time of all the groups combined in the 400 meter winning at 50.03, he was also third in Group 3 for the 55 dash at 6.56 and Pennsauken won the 4x400 meter running 3:27.88.

Brick Twp's Damien Dilcher won his first career state title in the 800 meter with a 1:58.56. Winslow's Jamil Adams earned the 55 meter hurdle win at 7.68.

In the field we saw Seth Kricheff of Northern Valley Old Tappan vault 14-0, he is currently tied for the state lead this season at 14-6. In the shot put Todd Stueber of Toms River South had a winning mark of 55-10.25.
