Week 1 Highlights | New Jersey Opens Season on a High Note

AT&T Coaches Hall of Fame Invitational

This meet had 14 New Jersey schools in attendance, let's break down some of the meet leading performances we saw as a state.

Union Catholic's Sydney McLaughlin made her first competition appearance on Saturday since her summer Olympic run in the 400 meter hurdles, but this wasn't on the track. She set her eyes on the long jump and did not disappoint with a US#1 career best mark of 20-7.25, yeah that happened, read more on her performance here.

Senior Cory Poole of East Orange Campus, one of the Nation's best returners, also had a solid day winning two events on the track. Poole set the US#1 standard in his signature event the 55 meter hurdles with a 7.32, that is a solid career best to open the season. He also won the 500 meter dash where he ran 1:04.75 US#2, his first time competing at that distance.

He wasn't the only boy to win two events as Jordan West of Rahway threw for  61-0.25 US#2 in the shot put and 59-8.5 US#9 in the weight throw, leading the meet in both events.

The Union Catholic boys performed well in the 4x800 meter relay with an 8:11.83 for NJ#1 US#2 and in the jumps Isaac Eason led the meet with a 22-2 US#9 leap.
