Central Regional Drops Out as Host of Meet of Champions

If you felt comfortable during state championships at Central Regional's brand new track and field facility last spring we have disappointing news for you.

The school has officially pulled out of hosting the Meet of Champions event, announced in a letter sent to the NJSIAA by Central Regional Superindendent of Schools Tom Parlapanides.

The final decision to pull out of hosting stems from unhappiness with the NJSIAA's disciplinary action towards the school on the football field. Earlier this month the school received word that the football team would be ineligible to compete in the state playoffs after having three players ejected in a game verse Toms River East, who also had athletes ejected because of an on field scuffle, as per NJSIAA rules.

Despite hoping this would come to a different outcome Bill Bruno, NJSIAA Assistant Director and head of track and field, has already started the search for a new location for the Meet of Champions as well as the South Groups 2 and 3 Sectional Championships. The sectional meet was also scheduled to be hosted at Central Regional.
