Olympic Trials Blog Introduction - A Volunteer's View

Hi everyone!

My name is Veronica Rocco, and I'll be blogging for NJ MileSplit to share my experiences as a volunteer at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. I graduated from Tenafly High School last year and just finished my freshman year at Amherst College, where I'm a member of the women's cross country and track and field teams. After having a great experience volunteering at World Indoors in Portland, I knew I had to come back to Oregon for the Olympic Trials! I'm excited to volunteer again with TrackTown USA, which is a great organization and makes volunteering so much fun.

While this won't be my first national championship, as I went to Sacramento in 2014 for USA's with my high school teammate Josette Norris, I can't wait to see the Hayward magic unfold. I'm excited to watch many of my favorite professional athletes battle it out for a spot on the starting line in Rio.

I flew out to Eugene on Wednesday, and was greeted by a billboard with University of Oregon track and field athletes as I left the Eugene airport. Eugene truly is TrackTown USA! Yesterday I attended my trainings for my volunteer positions, as I'm a team captain for the entrance team and I'll also be volunteering in the youth activation zone, which looks to be really fun! There are tons of people in town for the meet, and I know the next ten days will be great!
