Preview | Five Things to Keep an Eye on During Each Group Championship

Group 1

Group 2

Group 3

Group 4

NP A

NP B

5. Camille Bertholon of St. Dominic Academy and Mary Lynch of Villa Walsh along with a few others are all over the top distance event rankings for Non-Public B. Keep an eye out for a close battle between these girls come the distance races.

4. Asia Young of Holy Spirit is ranked NJ#2 in the long jump at 19-2.75. Though she placed well in this group on the track last year she's in total concentration for her long jump event in 2016. She's gone over 19 feet twice so far this season lets see if it'll happen again this week.

3. We have a pole vault battle a brewing around the state. Lets see if the team of Julia Dannenbaum of Pingry can push the ceiling and get over the 12-0 bar this weekend, she did so this past indoor and will have teammate Sophia Cortazzo there to push her as the Pingry girls are seeded 1-2 in the NPA from Sectionals at 11-6 and 10-6. Dannenbaum is currently NJ#5 on the season at 11-9.

2. The throws are strong out of Non-Public B, as you'll see with these next two items. Cade Antonucci of Holy Spirit is currently your state leader and US#17 in the boys javelin throwing 200-8. He is the only NJ athlete to break the 200 foot barrier this season, see if he can better that mark heading into MOCs.

1. Luke Grodeska of St. Rose is currently ranked NJ#1 US#7 thanks to his 68-0.75 bomb at Monmouth County Championships this season. During the first round of states he led not only the Non-Public B but all sectional performances combined in the shot put winning his section with a mark of 63-6.5.

If you can, then make your way over to the shot put event for a rare chance to see someone throw farther than 68 feet.

The last New Jersey athlete to throw farther than Grodeska's 68-0.75 was Braheme Days Jr of Bridgeton in 2012 when he launched a 68-8.5 at Penn Relays. Before that it was state record holder Nick Vena of Morristown who tossed a 75-10.25 at the 2011 Meet of Champions.
