Following Matt Conover’s victory at the South Group I Males shot put event, NJRunners caught up with him.

At the South Group I Meet on Thursday, February 7, the male’s shot put event was taken by Cedar Creek’s Matt Conover. His winning toss of 45-06.50, was a small but comfortable buffer between himself and second place Haddon Township’s Alex Higareda (43-04.00). Conover looks to continue his momentum as the championship part of the season unravels.

“I knew there were a lot of good competitors coming in, so I was pretty excited to get into it tonight, said Conover. “It was good that I threw well enough to win and I guess we’ll see about the Group Championships now.”

Conover’s personal best is 48-05.00, but he is hoping to smash that next weekend. He may not have broken it this week, but he’ll look to work on his technique in order to reach his goal.

“I was happy that I won, but I’m not too happy about how all of my throws went tonight,” said Conover. “I was really hoping to hit that 48 to 49 area and have a chance at setting a new PR.”
